Dr Andreas Machattos is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Medical Retina and Macular Diseases. He graduated from the Department of Medicine at Democritus University of Thrace in Alexandroupolis, Greece, and subsequently trained and worked in Sweden for more than 12 years, primarily at S:t Erik Eye Hospital in Stockholm.
After two years in vitreoretinal surgery, he was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Medical Retina. His clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases and pachychoroid disorders. His expertise includes advanced diagnostic imaging, intravitreal injections, photodynamic therapy (PDT) and retinal laser treatments, including image-guided treatment with NAVILAS.
In 2024, he served as medical lead for the development of clinical guidelines for diabetic retinopathy at S:t Erik Eye Hospital. He is a member of EURETINA, the European Society of Retina Specialists.
